Have you ever wanted to walk through a real Christmas wonderland? Step through the front door of our law office and you will look no further! Every year a group of hard-working and dedicated individuals put up hundreds of feet of garland, thousands of lights, Christmas trees big and small, wreaths adorned with bows and then top it all off with two life-size nutcrackers standing tall at the front door. Our attorneys even make room in their offices for decorations of all shapes and sizes! Lawyers from all over purposely schedule mediations at our law office this time of year so their clients may enjoy some of the most elaborate and festive decorations in the city!
Built in 1869 by Charles H. Bals, a German immigrant, our office originally served as a private residence with a detached livery to stable horses and park carriages. As time passed and horses were no longer needed, the livery was attached to the main house and the entire structure was sold to the funeral directors, Edwin R. Hisey and Clyde E. Titus. From 1916 until 1975, the Bals-Wocher House served as the Hisey-Titus funeral home to the growing city of Indianapolis. On December 17th, 1979 the home was listed as a historic building in the National Historic Register.
Since the time of the funeral home, the house has been converted into a more office-friendly space filled by various tenants until 2001, when the home was purchased by the law firm. Our firm has further refined the renovations to help enhance, and preserve, the Italianate style of the home, as well as create a welcoming and comfortable working environment for our staff and clientele. The main floor and second story bedrooms serve mainly as our attorneys’ offices and conference rooms while the livery provides additional offices for the staff and law clerks.
As if being chosen as part of the Candlelight Evening on Delaware was not enough, our law firm was also featured in The Indiana Lawyer article about law firms that decorate their offices for the Christmas season! (Their article can be read here.) It includes pictures for those of you wanting a small peek at some of the decorations from around our office!
Every lawyer and staff member here at Cline, Farrell, Christie and Lee is proud of the hard work that went into decorating our office and glad we were able to show it off to the world this year! If you are ever in the neighborhood, feel free to stop by and have a look at our wonderful decorations. Have a healthy and happy new year everyone!
